New Constant Companions Location Opens in Barberton

Hattie Larlham will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony and provide tours of its newest Constant Companions location on Wed., Nov. 14, 2018 from 10:30 a.m. until Noon at the Village at Anna Dean, 33 3rd Street in Barberton, Ohio. The addition of this program site brings Hattie Larlham’s Constant Companions to eight locations serving 233 people with disabilities. Tours and light refreshments will be provided before and after the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Constant Companions is a day program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Participants engage in social, recreational and volunteer activities that they choose. The program creates opportunities for participants to build life skills and become valued members of their community.

The new Barberton location can serve up to 35 people a day. There will be a full-time Licensed Practical Nurse on staff to provide care for participants with medical needs. The program will employ a site manager and 6 staff. Constant Companions is open weekdays from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Members of the community and those interested in services are encouraged to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour the facility.

A demand for services to meet the needs of adults with developmental disabilities in Barberton as well as neighboring communities in Medina County guided Hattie Larlham’s decision to add the Barberton site.

“We have a strong focus on community at Constant Companions, which makes Barberton the ideal place for our newest location,” said Program Director Stacy Timm. “There are endless opportunities for our participants to get involved in a wide range of activities that will allow them to explore the area.  Our new neighbors have been very welcoming!  The Summit County Board of DD’s Barberton Center will close at the end of the year, so opening a program at this location provides a terrific option for those who need services and want to stay in the area.”

“Our Constant Companions program creates opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to expand their horizons by getting connected with the community,” says Hattie Larlham CEO Stephen Colecchi.  “Barberton is a dynamic town with an interesting history and fits perfectly with our goals of community engagement for the people we serve.  We look forward to a successful partnership as an employer and a nonprofit serving the Barberton community.”
